WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed the country’s longstanding position on the Palestinian issue, stating that despite speculation surrounding the Abraham Accords, Pakistan’s policy remains unchanged and firmly rooted in its principles.

Speaking to journalists in Washington, Dar dismissed reports suggesting a possible shift in Pakistan’s stance toward the normalization agreements known as the Abraham Accords, emphasizing that Pakistan will continue to support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in line with international resolutions.

No Change in Pakistan’s Position on Palestine

Addressing questions regarding recent rumors and discussions about the Abraham Accords, Ishaq Dar said numerous speculations were circulating, but Pakistan’s position remained “absolutely clear.”

He stated that Pakistan would not alter its stance until a Palestinian state is recognized on the basis of pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.

According to Dar, Pakistan’s policy on Palestine is based on principles and international law, and there is no flexibility in that position until a just and lasting solution is achieved.

“Pakistan’s stance is clear and consistent. Until Palestine is recognized according to the pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, there will be no change in Pakistan’s position,” he said.

Reaffirmation of Support for Kashmir and Palestine

The foreign minister also reiterated Pakistan’s support for the rights of the Palestinian and Kashmiri peoples.

He stressed that the people of Jammu and Kashmir should be granted their rights in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions, while Pakistan would continue advocating for a peaceful and just resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Dar described Pakistan’s approach as one based on international legality, diplomacy, and support for the right of self-determination.

Pakistan as a Promoter of Peace

During the media interaction, Ishaq Dar highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic role in regional and international affairs, describing the country as a “builder of peace.”

He claimed that Pakistan had played an important role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, helping bring the two countries to the negotiating table after decades of strained relations.

According to Dar, Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts contributed to creating opportunities for dialogue and reducing tensions between the two sides.

He further stated that Pakistan has consistently worked to encourage peaceful solutions to international disputes through engagement and diplomacy.

Improved International Standing

The deputy prime minister said that Pakistan’s international profile had improved significantly under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

He argued that attempts by India to isolate Pakistan diplomatically had failed and that the country had gained greater recognition on the global stage due to its constructive diplomatic engagements.

Dar maintained that Pakistan’s recent foreign policy initiatives had strengthened its relationships with key international partners and enhanced its role in addressing regional challenges.

Meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

Ishaq Dar also provided details about his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing the discussions as cordial and productive.

He said the meeting was attended by Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States and senior officials from the Foreign Office.

According to Dar, the talks took place in a positive atmosphere and covered matters of mutual interest between Pakistan and the United States. However, he did not publicly disclose detailed specifics of the discussions.

The meeting reflects ongoing diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Washington on regional security, economic cooperation, and broader international issues.

Abraham Accords Debate

The issue gained renewed attention after recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, who suggested that additional Muslim-majority countries should consider joining the Abraham Accords.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said that countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan should become part of the normalization framework.

The Abraham Accords, first introduced in 2020, established diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab states. The agreements were presented as a means of promoting regional stability and cooperation.

Pakistan, however, has consistently maintained that its policy toward Israel is linked to the resolution of the Palestinian issue and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

Continued Commitment to a Principled Policy

Dar’s remarks underscore Pakistan’s longstanding diplomatic position, which has remained largely unchanged for decades. Successive Pakistani governments have maintained that any consideration of formal relations with Israel would depend on progress toward a comprehensive and internationally accepted settlement of the Palestinian question.

By reiterating support for a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders and Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital, the foreign minister sought to dispel speculation regarding any imminent policy shift.

His comments also reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to pursuing its foreign policy objectives through diplomacy while continuing to support internationally recognized rights for both Palestinians and Kashmiris.
