NEW DELHI: Indian authorities have suspended six police officials following the recovery of explosive material near the route of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy during his recent visit to Bengaluru, according to Indian media reports.

The incident reportedly took place on May 10 in the Kaggalipura area of Bengaluru, where Prime Minister Modi was traveling to attend an official event.

According to police officials, gelatin sticks were discovered near the convoy route during routine security checks and clearance operations conducted ahead of the Prime Minister’s movement.

Authorities said the discovery triggered a high-level security alert, although the Prime Minister’s visit proceeded without any disruption.

Following an internal inquiry into the incident, six police personnel have now been suspended for alleged negligence in their duties. Officials have also launched a detailed investigation to determine how the explosive material reached a high-security route.

Investigators are examining whether the presence of the gelatin sticks was the result of deliberate sabotage or a lapse in security protocols.

Security agencies are also reviewing surveillance footage, deployment records, and checkpoint procedures to identify any breaches that may have allowed the material to go undetected until the final clearance stage.

The incident has raised serious concerns about security arrangements during high-profile visits in India, particularly those involving the Prime Minister, who is usually provided with Z+ category protection.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made in connection with the case, but officials say all angles are being investigated thoroughly.

Indian media reports suggest that the suspension of officials is part of immediate disciplinary action while the broader investigation continues to establish responsibility and prevent future security lapses.

Security experts note that even minor breaches in convoy route security can pose significant risks during high-level movements, prompting strict protocols and multiple layers of clearance in advance.

The case remains under investigation, and further updates are expected as authorities complete their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the explosive material.
