BEIJING: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the friendship between Pakistan and China has no parallel in the world, as both countries continue to deepen cooperation in multiple sectors.
The prime minister made these remarks during a visit to the headquarters of a leading Chinese e-commerce platform, where he was received by Executive Chairman Joseph Tsai. The visit focused on expanding digital and economic collaboration between Pakistan and China.
During the visit, the executive chairman briefed the prime minister on the company’s global operations, technological advancements, and future expansion plans. A long-term cooperation agreement was also signed between the Chinese e-commerce giant and Pakistan in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking on the occasion, the company’s executive chairman praised Pakistan’s role in regional peace efforts, particularly regarding the Iran-US ceasefire initiative, calling Pakistan’s contribution commendable.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with China and reiterated that the friendship between the two countries is unmatched anywhere in the world.
“We are celebrating 75 years of Pakistan-China relations, and this friendship has no example in the world,” the prime minister said.
He also praised the Chinese tech company as one of the leading global institutions and acknowledged the expanding cooperation between Pakistan and China under the leadership of President Xi Jinping.
The prime minister highlighted several ongoing digital initiatives in Pakistan, including the launch of a digital wallet system for underprivileged citizens last year. He said that financial assistance has been distributed transparently through digital platforms to ensure accountability and efficiency.
He further noted that the complete digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is a major milestone aimed at improving transparency, governance, and ease of doing business in Pakistan.
“We have laid the foundation of a brighter future together,” Shehbaz Sharif said, adding that the agreements between Pakistan and Chinese companies will benefit both countries by promoting investment, transparency, and improved governance systems.
Officials said the collaboration with leading Chinese tech firms is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy, support e-commerce growth, and enhance technological innovation in public and private sectors.
The visit is part of the prime minister’s broader engagements in China, where he has held meetings with senior leadership, investors, and business executives to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, technology, and development.
Analysts say Pakistan is increasingly focusing on digital transformation and foreign tech partnerships as part of its broader economic modernization strategy, with China playing a central role in this transition.
