Khairpur: Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) organized a prestigious ceremony to distribute Need-Cum-Merit Scholarships and Zakat & Ushar assistance among deserving students from various academic departments of the university.
The ceremony was held under the supervision of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk and was presided over by Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences.
During the event, District Zakat and Ushar Officer Khairpur, Mr. Saleem Tanwari, along with Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio, distributed 250 scholarship and Zakat cheques among male and female students belonging to different departments of the university.
University officials also announced that the remaining 100 cheques would be distributed after Eid.
Addressing the ceremony, District Zakat and Ushar Officer Mr. Saleem Tanwari highlighted the importance of Zakat as a sacred social responsibility aimed at supporting deserving individuals, particularly students facing financial challenges.
He stated that such welfare initiatives help students continue their education without financial obstacles and contribute significantly to educational development and social welfare in society.
“Zakat is not only a religious obligation but also a means to ensure that deserving students receive the support needed to pursue their academic goals,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio said that Shah Abdul Latif University has always remained committed to promoting educational opportunities for talented and deserving students through scholarships and welfare programs.
He emphasized that education serves as the foundation of a progressive and developed society and that supporting students financially is a collective responsibility shared by educational institutions and society as a whole.
Prof. Chandio further noted that many talented students are unable to continue their studies due to financial difficulties, and scholarship programs provide them with hope and encouragement to achieve academic success.
The ceremony was attended by several faculty members, university officers, staff, and students, reflecting the institution’s continued focus on student welfare and academic support.
Among those present at the event were Dr. Khalida Mahar, Professor Sarfraz Korejo, Syed Karam Ali Shah, Farhan Latif Memon, Altaf Abro, and Shumaila Rubab, along with other academic and administrative officials.
Students who received scholarships and Zakat assistance expressed gratitude to the university administration and the Zakat department for providing timely financial support.
Many students said the assistance would help them continue their education, manage academic expenses, and reduce the financial burden on their families.
