Quetta: Pakistan Railways has restored train operations from Balochistan to other parts of the country after a two-day suspension, providing relief to passengers and easing transportation concerns in the province.
According to railway officials, train services from Balochistan to various cities across Pakistan resumed on Wednesday following temporary disruption caused by unavoidable circumstances. The suspension had affected travel plans of hundreds of passengers relying on rail transport between Quetta and other major cities.
Officials stated that Pakistan Railways had suspended train operations from Balochistan on May 18 and 19 due to security and operational concerns. During the suspension period, several scheduled train services either remained canceled or operated on limited routes.
Among the affected services was the popular Jaffar Express, which operates between Quetta and Peshawar. Railway authorities confirmed that the Quetta-to-Peshawar Jaffar Express remained canceled for two days, while the Peshawar-to-Quetta service was restricted only up to Jacobabad instead of completing its full journey to Quetta.
The temporary suspension had created inconvenience for passengers, especially those traveling for business, education, medical treatment, and family visits. Many travelers had been forced to seek alternative means of transportation, including buses and private vehicles.
However, railway officials announced that all necessary arrangements had been completed to restore normal operations. Following the resumption of services, the Jaffar Express was scheduled to depart from Quetta for Peshawar at its regular departure time of 9:00 am on Wednesday.
Similarly, the incoming Jaffar Express from Peshawar was expected to arrive in Quetta later in the afternoon, officially marking the restoration of regular railway connectivity between Balochistan and the rest of the country.
Pakistan Railways authorities expressed hope that the restoration of train services would help normalize passenger movement and reduce travel difficulties faced during the suspension period. Officials added that railway operations were being monitored closely to ensure passenger safety and smooth functioning of services.
The Jaffar Express is considered one of the most important railway links connecting Balochistan with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and other parts of Pakistan. Thousands of passengers use the service every month due to its affordability and convenience compared to road and air travel.
The restoration of rail services is also expected to benefit traders and transporters who rely on railway operations for the movement of goods and supplies between provinces. Railway transport remains a crucial component of economic activity in Balochistan, particularly for people living in remote areas.
Security measures at railway stations and along train routes have reportedly been strengthened following the temporary suspension. Authorities are coordinating with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of passengers and railway infrastructure.
Passengers traveling through Quetta Railway Station welcomed the decision to resume operations, saying that train services provide an economical and comfortable travel option, especially for long-distance journeys.
Transport experts believe that uninterrupted railway operations are essential for improving connectivity, supporting regional trade, and promoting economic integration between provinces. They emphasized that restoring public confidence in railway services is important for increasing passenger numbers and strengthening the national transport network.
Pakistan Railways has not provided detailed information regarding the exact reasons behind the two-day suspension, describing the move only as necessary due to unavoidable circumstances. However, officials assured passengers that services are now operating according to schedule.
The resumption of train services comes as authorities continue efforts to improve transportation facilities and operational efficiency within the railway sector. Passengers have been advised to remain updated through official railway channels regarding train timings and travel advisories.
