The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has accepted an appeal filed by former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Director General Shahzad Saleem, effectively closing the inquiry into his appointment.
A two-member bench, including Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, announced the short order.
During the hearing, Saleem’s counsel argued that NAB had initiated the inquiry into his appointment after a delay of nine years, adding that the matter had already been settled through a Supreme Court judgment.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi questioned the delay, asking whether NAB had remained asleep during that period and why it had not examined the appointment when the Supreme Court issued its order.
The NAB prosecutor acknowledged that the delay in conducting the inquiry was on the bureau’s part but maintained that documentary records existed indicating the appointment was improper.
The prosecutor said Saleem’s promotions had been reviewed following the Supreme Court’s directives.
Justice Rizvi observed that NAB was responsible for examining the appointment process alongside the promotions.
