ISLAMABAD: A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has postponed for a third time its reserved verdict in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) November 26 protest case against the party ‘s founder snf former prime minister Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, fixing October 16 as the next date for the decision.
Aleema Khan’s legal team, including her lawyer Muhammad Faisal Malik, appeared before the court on Thursday for proceedings in the case. The lawyers were told by court staff that the judge was on leave to attend a special course.
The special anti-terrorism court had earlier reserved its decision in the case, which relates to the November 26 protest and was registered at Sadiqabad police station.
The verdict was reserved by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah. The latest postponement marks the third time the decision has been deferred. The verdict was subsequently deferred until October 16.
The case
The case stems from the PTI’s November 26, 2024, protest in Islamabad, when more than 10,000 party supporters entered the capital despite restrictions on public gatherings and a security lockdown. They encountered a deployment of approximately 20,000 security personnel tasked with preventing the march from moving forward.
Clashes erupted between protesters and law enforcement personnel in the capital’s Red Zone. Following a day of confrontation, the PTI leadership withdrew, and the party announced that it was suspending its planned sit-in “for the time being”.
Authorities subsequently registered cases against several PTI leaders under various provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Two cases were lodged at Taxila police station, while Sadiqabad and Naseerabad police stations registered one case each.
Aleema Khan and 10 other individuals were nominated in the case registered at Sadiqabad police station.
