DISTRICT KHYBER/PESHAWAR: Three suspected militants of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) Bhittani group were killed in an exchange of fire during a joint operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and police in Tank district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the CTD said on Friday. Separately, two police personnel were martyred in Jamrud, Khyber district.

Operation in Tank

The CTD said the encounter took place in the Garah Faqira area, within the limits of S.M.A. police station, after intelligence reports about the presence of militants on Jandola Road. Two of the dead were identified as Usama and Suleman, while the identity of the third was being established.

The department alleged the three were involved in an improvised explosive device blast near the Meera Alam petrol pump that killed one civilian and two police personnel and injured seven others. It also accused them of planting IEDs at Wana Bazaar and at the office of Bilal, head of a local peace committee, according to the CTD spokesperson.

The CTD said Usama was the brother of Shoaib, a militant allegedly involved in the 2025 attack on Bannu Cantonment, and the cousin of Musa, who was killed in an attack on police in Wana Bazaar. These claims are the CTD’s and could not be independently verified.

Security personnel recovered three Kalashnikov rifles, 11 magazines and mobile phones, and a search operation was launched after the firing ended. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed and the CTD’s additional inspector general praised the personnel involved. Hameed said operations would continue without interruption to eliminate terrorism from the province.

Two policemen killed in Jamrud

Meanwhile, in Khyber district, police said two personnel were martyred in firing by unidentified gunmen at separate locations in Jamrud. They were identified as Bahadur Shah, son of Muhammad Akbar and a resident of Charsadda, and constable Kamran.

Bahadur Shah was shot in the Ghundi Sakhi Pul area late on Thursday night, and his body was shifted to hospital on Friday morning for a post-mortem. Kamran was killed in the Jalal Din area, within Jamrud police station’s jurisdiction, and his body was taken to Jamrud Hospital.

A heavy contingent of police reached the scene, but the attackers fled. Their identities have not been established, and investigations are under way.
