Karachi : A grand and spiritually uplifting cultural and public gathering titled “Mehfil-e-Samaa — Dedicated to Karachi and Its People” was organized by Friends of Karachi at Main Rizvia Chowrangi, Nazimabad. Renowned Qawwals Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad Qawwal and Afzal Sabri captivated the audience with their powerful voices and exceptional performances.
Religious scholars, spiritual leaders, business and social personalities, young people, citizens and people from various walks of life attended the event in large numbers. The soulful spiritual poetry and Qawwali performances kept the audience mesmerized, while the entire programme conveyed a strong message of peace, love, brotherhood, tolerance and a positive Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Faizan Rawat, Founder of Friends of Karachi and Youth of Karachi, said that Karachi is not merely a city but the economic lifeline of Pakistan and a magnificent metropolis that embraces people belonging to different cultures, languages, religions and communities.
Faizan Rawat said that the people of Karachi have always stood by Pakistan during difficult times. Today, he added, there is a greater need to strengthen the voices of peace, love, tolerance and brotherhood instead of hatred, division and despair.
He said that the purpose of “Mehfil-e-Samaa” was not merely to organize an evening of music and Qawwali, but to convey a message to the people of Karachi that the real strength of the city lies in the unity of its people, mutual respect and love.
Faizan Rawat said that when people speaking different languages, belonging to different cultures and following different religions sit together in Karachi and spread a message of peace and love, it represents the true beauty of Karachi and the real image of Pakistan.
He emphasized that Karachi needs such activities now more than ever — activities that bring citizens closer, encourage young people to engage in positive pursuits and create hope within society.
«“We do not want to give the youth of Karachi a politics of complaints and despair. We want to give them a Karachi where there is sports, culture, music, education, employment opportunities and, above all, the right to live with peace, dignity and respect.”»
Faizan Rawat further said that addressing Karachi’s challenges is not limited to building roads, buildings and infrastructure; it is equally important to rebuild the relationships and trust that are weakening within society. Cultural and social activities can play an important role in achieving this objective.
He said that the objective of Friends of Karachi and Youth of Karachi is to highlight the positive identity of the city and connect Karachi’s youth with a constructive, peaceful and dignified future.
He stressed the need to take Karachi beyond news of violence, hatred and division.
«“We want the world to speak of Karachi not only because of its problems, but because of its peace, love, culture, art, talented youth and the spirit of brotherhood among its people.”»
He said that the message of love and peace conveyed through Qawwali and spiritual poetry at the Mehfil-e-Samaa was not meant for any particular group or community, but for the entire people of Karachi.
Faizan Rawat thanked the renowned Qawwals, religious scholars, spiritual leaders, distinguished guests, media representatives and the people of Karachi who attended the gathering. He said that the media has always played an important role in highlighting the positive and constructive side of Karachi, and such activities should be given greater coverage.
He said that the people of Karachi want peace, development and dignity, and they want a safe and bright future for their children.
«“We must turn this hope of the people of Karachi into our strength. We must move forward with love against hatred, unity against division, and hope against despair.”»
At the conclusion of the gathering, participants expressed their commitment to playing a collective role in promoting peace, tolerance, brotherhood, cultural harmony and positive social activities in Karachi.
The Mehfil-e-Samaa once again delivered a powerful message that Karachi’s true identity is not defined by its problems, but by its people, their love, tolerance, culture and vibrant spirit.
