Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Central Spokesperson Shazia Marri has called for national unity and a joint strategy to combat terrorism, warning that unrest in any part of the country could affect Karachi and other regions.

In a statement, Shazia Marri said Karachi is a “mini Pakistan” and the effects of instability anywhere in the country eventually reach the metropolis.

She expressed serious concern over the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, saying failure to control terrorism could have repercussions across the country.

“Terrorism should not be viewed through a political lens but as a national security issue,” she said, stressing that the fight against terrorism was a collective responsibility of political parties and state institutions.

Shazia Marri said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had repeatedly declared terrorism a red line for the PPP, adding that there could be no compromise on the issue.

She said Bilawal Bhutto had urged the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments to sign a written agreement for joint action against terrorism.

The PPPP spokesperson called for dialogue with all political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to formulate a joint strategy against terrorism.

She maintained that all possible avenues for political dialogue should be exhausted before taking constitutional measures, adding that political differences must be kept separate from the national interest.

Shazia Marri further said terrorism had become a serious threat to Pakistan’s existence, while support being provided to terrorist groups from neighbouring countries remained a major security challenge.

She expressed concern over the continuation of political protests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite repeated terrorist incidents and urged all political forces to make dialogue successful to prevent political instability.

She said political stability was essential for effectively combating terrorism and ensuring continuity of development projects.

Shazia Marri added that the PPP had made countless sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and would continue its struggle for the elimination of the menace.

She stressed that finding a political solution before the situation reached the stage of emergency or governor’s rule was the responsibility of all democratic forces.

“Successful political dialogue is essential for Pakistan’s security, democracy and the interests of all provinces,” she concluded.
