ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday rejected allegations by the Afghan Taliban regime linking Pakistan to alleged violence in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province, calling the claims “frivolous, baseless and devoid of any truth” after a fact-check.
In a statement posted on X, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said Pakistan categorically rejected claims that its security forces or intelligence agencies were involved in internal clashes in Nuristan or elsewhere in Afghanistan.
It also rejected allegations that Pakistan was recruiting or training former Afghan security personnel or facilitating Daesh or any other terrorist group operating in Afghanistan.
The ministry said “not a shred of evidence” had been produced to substantiate Pakistan’s alleged involvement, citing the absence of identities, documents, communications, forensic evidence or independent verification.
It also questioned an alleged video being circulated on social media to support the claims, saying it showed only a few unarmed individuals who were “not even properly dressed or equipped” and had allegedly been arrested in circumstances that appeared to indicate a pre-planned video shoot.
The ministry accused the Afghan Taliban regime of being known for what it described as “lies and fabricated claims”.
It said the presence and activities of various terrorist groups inside Afghanistan were well documented in successive reports by the United Nations and other international organisations.
“Attempts to manufacture a Pakistani connection cannot obscure the reality” that terrorist groups continued to find sanctuary and a permissive environment for growth in Afghanistan, the ministry said.
It further criticised the Afghan Taliban regime for accusing Pakistan of supporting terrorism while militant organisations operating from Afghanistan continued to pose, according to Islamabad, a direct threat to Pakistan and regional security.
Instead of blaming external actors for its internal security challenges, the ministry said, the Taliban authorities should take “credible and verifiable action” against terrorist organisations operating from Afghan territory.
It also called on the Afghan authorities to fulfil their commitments that Afghan soil would not be used for terrorism against Pakistan or any other country.
The ministry additionally criticised what it described as the Taliban regime’s attempts to externalise internal dissent and said its claims reflected what Islamabad characterised as the oppression of women, children and minorities.
