Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz met Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Riyadh, where the two sides discussed regional security and continued cooperation under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (MJDA).
According to a statement released on X, the officials welcomed the outcomes of a recent meeting of chiefs of staff from countries participating in the agreement.
The talks also covered recent attacks targeting Makkah and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia. The two sides stressed the need to continue joint efforts to counter such attacks in accordance with the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Minister of State and National Security Adviser Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Ojayri, Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, and Adviser to the Defense Minister for Intelligence Affairs Hisham bin Abdulaziz bin Saif.
Several Pakistani officials also attended the meeting.
Earlier senior military officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye met to assess the security situation and threats facing Saudi Arabia, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had said.
The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Saudi Arabia’s Chief of General Staff and senior Turkish military officials.
According to ISPR, the officials discussed security challenges facing Saudi Arabia and condemned attacks targeting the holy city of Makkah, along with civilian and economic infrastructure in the kingdom.
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security and defence and praised the Saudi armed forces for their vigilance and professionalism in protecting the country and its population.
The meeting comes amid heightened regional security concerns and follows attacks affecting Saudi territory and critical infrastructure. The participation of senior military officials from the three countries reflected their focus on coordination and cooperation in addressing emerging security threats.
The officials also stressed the importance of continued efforts to safeguard Saudi Arabia’s population, key facilities and economic assets from potential attacks.
