Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam has urged people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) not to take part in unnecessary protests, saying that sit-ins and demonstrations ultimately cause losses for the public.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Muqam said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s first protest call had resulted in what he described as a “missed call” and claimed that its latest call would be its last.
the federal minister alleged that an attempt was being made to take control of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s powers and use them for political purposes.
He also said that interference in the command and structure of the provincial police could be harmful to the institution.
The federal minister said terrorism was the biggest challenge facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and urged the provincial government to focus its attention on tackling the problem.
Ameer Muqam further alleged that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had neither a plan nor a clear vision for the people of the province.
It is pertinent to mention here that two days ago Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formed a four-member committee to engage political parties, including the government, ahead of its planned Sept. 27 protest.
The committee comprises Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Asad Qaiser, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
The committee has been tasked with reaching out to political parties across the spectrum as part of efforts to broaden consultations ahead of the planned protest.
The move comes as PTI continues preparations for its Sept. 27 mobilisation. Barrister Gohar has previously said the party intends to proceed with the protest, while opposition parties have also been holding consultations over a joint political strategy.
The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan has also been accelerating contacts with political parties and discussing a coordinated political and public outreach strategy ahead of the Sept. 27 protest.
