Peshawar Zalmi are set to play their fifth Pakistan Super League (PSL) final as they face Hyderabad Kingsmen on May 3, 2026, at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. This marks their return to the final after a gap of four years, raising the question: what does their past performance in finals reveal?Zalmi first reached a PSL final in 2017 under the leadership of Shahid Afridi. However, Afridi was unable to play the final due to a hand injury sustained during the eliminator in Dubai. Darren Sammy took over as captain and led the team to a memorable victory. On March 5, 2017, at Gaddafi Stadium, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 58 runs to win their first and only PSL title so far.In 2018, Zalmi reached the final again, this time facing Islamabad United at the National Stadium in Karachi on March 25. Despite a strong campaign, they fell short, losing the match by three wickets. The following year, on March 17, 2019, Peshawar Zalmi made it to their third final. However, they were once again denied the trophy, as Quetta Gladiators secured a convincing eight-wicket victory at the National Stadium in Karachi.Zalmi’s fourth final appearance came in 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. In that match, they faced Multan Sultans but were defeated by 47 runs on June 24.So far, Peshawar Zalmi have played four PSL finals, winning one (2017) and losing three (2018, 2019, and 2021). Their record shows both consistency in reaching the final stages and difficulty in converting those appearances into titles. As they head into their fifth final, Zalmi will be hoping to improve that record and claim their second PSL trophy. With experience on their side and a strong squad, they remain serious contenders—but history suggests that finals have often been a challenging hurdle for the franchise.
