Three children lost their lives in a tragic incident in Hyderabad’s Phuleli area after receiving an electric shock during a wedding ceremony, police and rescue officials confirmed.
According to police, the children had come to attend a relative’s wedding and were sleeping on the roof of a house when the accident occurred. High-voltage power lines passing over the rooftop reportedly caused the fatal electric shock.
The deceased children were aged 10, 12, and 14 years. Authorities confirmed that among the victims were two real brothers, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for the family.
Police stated that the children were asleep on the roof when they came into contact with overhead electricity wires, resulting in their immediate deaths.
On the other hand, a spokesperson for Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) said that the incident occurred within the Phuleli subdivision. He clarified that there were no broken wires at the site, suggesting that the children may have come too close to the live electrical lines or accidentally touched them.
The HESCO spokesperson also pointed out that illegal constructions in residential areas have led to power lines running dangerously close to rooftops and walls. He added that residents in the Tando Yousuf area had already been issued warnings regarding safety risks associated with such encroachments.
The tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns about urban safety, particularly the placement of high-voltage electricity lines near densely populated residential areas. Experts say that lack of proper safety distance between buildings and power infrastructure continues to pose a major risk, especially for children.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident further and review safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
