SANGHAR — Report by Ghulam Rasool Narejo: A fire safety training and awareness programme was organized at Dr Muhammad Saleh Gopang Boys High School in Sanghar to educate students about precautionary measures and emergency procedures in the event of a possible fire incident.
According to details, a series of training and awareness programmes are being conducted at educational institutions across Sanghar following the PIMS incident, with the aim of preparing students and teaching staff to respond effectively to possible fire-related emergencies.
As part of the initial phase of the awareness campaign, a special training session was arranged at Dr Muhammad Saleh Gopang Boys High School, Sanghar. The programme focused on educating students about fire prevention, emergency response procedures and safety precautions that can help protect lives during an unexpected incident.
During the training session, students were informed about the basic measures they should adopt if a fire breaks out inside an educational institution. Trainers explained how students should remain calm, avoid panic and follow safety instructions during an emergency.
The students were also briefed on how to protect themselves from fire and smoke and how to safely move away from a dangerous area. Special emphasis was placed on following emergency procedures and cooperating with teachers and other responsible personnel during an emergency situation.
A practical rehearsal was also conducted to familiarize students with the use of emergency exits. The students were instructed on how to leave the school building in an orderly and safe manner through designated emergency doors in the event of a fire or other emergency.
The evacuation drill was designed to ensure that students would know where to go and how to respond if they were required to leave the school building quickly. The exercise also aimed to develop a sense of preparedness among students so that they could react responsibly instead of panicking during an actual emergency.
Fire safety equipment was also demonstrated and used during the programme. Students were given practical exposure to the use of fire safety equipment for extinguishing a fire. The demonstration was intended to create greater awareness among students about the importance of fire prevention and the proper use of firefighting equipment.
Officials and teachers emphasized that awareness and regular training are essential components of school safety. Students who are familiar with emergency procedures are better prepared to respond appropriately when faced with a dangerous situation.
The training also highlighted the importance of preventive measures. Students were advised to remain alert to potential hazards and immediately inform teachers or school authorities if they notice anything that could pose a fire risk.
The programme was attended by District Education Officer Secondary Ghulam Mustafa Laghari, District Education Officer Primary Taj Muhammad Dahiri, Taluka Education Officer Zulfiqar Ali Arain and Headmaster Qadir Bakhsh Khaskheli.
District Sanghar chapter GSTA President Rustum Ali Nizamani and several other teachers were also present during the training session.
The participating education officials and teachers observed the practical activities and supported the initiative aimed at improving safety awareness among students.
The programme provided students with both theoretical information and practical training. Rather than limiting the session to classroom-based instructions, the organizers included an evacuation rehearsal and a demonstration of fire safety equipment to give students a clearer understanding of how to respond during an emergency.
The initiative is part of wider efforts to improve preparedness in educational institutions following concerns over possible emergencies. Schools are places where large numbers of students and staff remain present for several hours every day, making emergency preparedness and safety awareness particularly important.

The presence of senior education officials, the headmaster, teachers and representatives of the teachers’ organization reflected the importance being given to safety awareness in educational institutions in Sanghar.
