Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has warned the government that his party will stage sit-ins in Islamabad and Rawalpindi if it is not allowed to hold a rally at Liaquat Bagh.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem said the government should focus on collecting taxes from people and groups who were not paying them instead of increasing the burden on existing taxpayers.
He said the same political leaders had remained in power for 40 to 50 years, while ordinary people continued to face rising financial pressure.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief also criticised continuing power cuts despite high electricity bills.
He questioned why load shedding was taking place when electricity consumers were already being charged numerous taxes through their bills.
Hafiz Naeem called on the prime minister to explain why people were facing power cuts despite paying heavy electricity charges.
He warned that if permission for the Liaquat Bagh rally was not granted, his party would expand its protest campaign by holding sit-ins in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
