Tando Ghulam Ali: The Maheshwari community held a rally in Tando Ghulam Ali and staged a protest outside the Tando Ghulam Ali Press Club against the proposed inclusion of four sacred Maheshwari shrines in a Hindu temple management list.
The protest was led by Karo Matang, Somar Matang, Jamon Matang, Sodho Maheshwari, Chetan Maharaj, Jamon Maheshwari and other community representatives.
The protesters said the four sacred sites, known as the Char Dham, include Shri Dada Dhani Matang Dev, Shri Dada Long Dev, Shri Dada Matai Dev and Shri Dada Mamai Dev. They said the Maheshwari community has been visiting and observing traditional religious rituals at these shrines for centuries.
Community representatives appealed to senior authorities, including Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and minority representatives, to immediately take notice of the matter and ensure the historical, religious and traditional status of all four shrines is protected.
The protesters alleged that a local community representative was seeking to include the four shrines—located in districts including Mithi, Badin and Thatta—in the list of temples managed by the relevant Hindu temple management committee. The Maheshwari community rejected the proposal, saying such decisions should not be taken without consultation with its religious leaders and representatives.
They maintained that the traditional custodians and caretakers of the four shrines are the Matang Brahmins and Dhani Matang Seva Samiti, who have been associated with the sacred sites for generations.
