Ahead of the Gaza Board of Peace meeting on Thursday, Palestinian resistance group Hamas clarified its conditions for the deployment of the international Gaza peace force.
Hamas emphasized that the peace force should remain at the borders and must not interfere in Palestine’s civil, political, or security matters. Basem Naim, spokesperson for Hamas, stated that any involvement in internal affairs would be unacceptable and could be perceived by Palestinians as an occupation.
The group specified that the role of the international personnel should be limited to separating the parties and maintaining the ceasefire, without taking sides. Hamas said it had no objection to the presence of the international force if it acted as a protective layer between conflicting parties.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to participate in the Gaza Board of Peace meeting. The agenda will also cover discussions on an interim Palestinian government, Hamas’s role, and the establishment of a permanent ceasefire.
