MUZAFFARABAD — August 20, 2026: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has approved the party’s nominations for reserved seats in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, with official notifications also issued following his approval.
According to PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb, Nawaz Sharif approved the party tickets after considering the recommendations submitted by the party’s parliamentary board. She said the tickets were issued with Nawaz Sharif’s signatures.
For the reserved seats for women, the party has nominated Maryam Zamani, Maryam Idrees, Sehrish Qamar, and Riffat Abid.
For the reserved seat representing Overseas Pakistanis, PML-N has awarded the party ticket to Abdul Rehman. Iftikhar Gilani has been nominated for the technocrat seat.
For the reserved seat designated for Ulema and Mashaikh, the party has nominated Pir Mazhar Saeed.
The approval of the nominations comes as part of the political process for filling reserved seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly. The party’s parliamentary board had reviewed the candidates and forwarded its recommendations to the PML-N leadership for final approval.
Maryam Aurangzeb said the nominations were formally approved by Nawaz Sharif and that the relevant notification had subsequently been issued.
The nominated candidates will now participate in the process for the respective reserved seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly. The reserved-seat structure provides representation to women and specific professional and social categories within the assembly.
The development marks another step in PML-N’s preparations for its parliamentary representation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with the party leadership finalizing its nominees for the available reserved seats.
