Members of the Malik community from Bachal Shah Miani staged a protest outside the Sukkur Press Club against the C-Section Police, alleging that a mentally ill man, Rahim Bakhsh alias Raja Malik, was injured in what they described as a fake police encounter. The protesters chanted slogans against the police and demanded an immediate investigation into the incident.
The protesters called upon Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho and DIG Sukkur to take immediate notice of the incident and initiate legal action against the police officers and personnel allegedly involved.
Speaking to the media, protesters Irfan Malik, Khair Muhammad Malik, Hamadullah Malik, Syed Hizbullah Shah and others said that Rahim Bakhsh alias Raja Malik was mentally ill and had gone missing from his home in Bachal Shah Miani approximately six days earlier.
According to the protesters, after nightfall, family members and local residents began searching for him. Despite making every possible effort, they could not trace him. They said the family had remained engaged in an extensive search for the missing man for the past six days.
The protesters said they learned through social media the previous day that C-Section Police had allegedly injured Rahim Bakhsh in a firing incident described by police as an encounter near Pir Todal Shah graveyard in Old Sukkur. They said he was subsequently shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
After receiving the information, Rahim Bakhsh’s parents and other family members were reportedly left devastated, while an atmosphere of grief prevailed at their home. His parents and sisters were said to be in a state of distress.
Members of the Malik community alleged that Rahim Bakhsh was mentally ill and had been injured after the incident was allegedly portrayed as a police encounter. They said that after learning about the incident, they contacted the SHO of C-Section Police Station in an attempt to ascertain the facts and meet with him, but alleged that the SHO avoided meeting them.
The protesters further claimed that they also tried to contact SSP Sukkur but were not given an opportunity to meet him.
They said the condition of Rahim Bakhsh alias Raja Malik, who was injured in the alleged encounter, was reportedly critical, causing serious concern among his family members.
The protesters demanded that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho and DIG Sukkur order a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident. They also called for legal action against the relevant officers and personnel of C-Section Police Station allegedly responsible for injuring Rahim Bakhsh and demanded that the allegedly detained mentally ill man be handed over to his family immediately.
The protesters warned that if their demands were not addressed promptly and the incident was not taken notice of, they would be compelled to stage a sit-in outside the DIG Sukkur office. They said the relevant authorities would be responsible for any consequences arising from continued inaction.
