Sukkur (Bureau Report): Women belonging to the Laghari community and residing in the Garam Godi area of Sukkur staged a strong protest outside the Sukkur Press Club, alleging police brutality, injustice, violation of the sanctity of their homes and forced arrests of male family members. The protesting women raised strong slogans against the alleged misconduct of the police and demanded that senior authorities take immediate notice of the matter.

The women protesters alleged that police personnel had raided their homes, violating the sanctity of their privacy and households. According to the women, the police falsely accused them of involvement in drugs, entered their homes and conducted searches, while allegedly subjecting the women to severe physical violence. They further alleged that the men present in their homes were forcibly arrested and taken away by the police.

The women further stated that when they went to the concerned police station to obtain information about the arrested individuals, the police personnel present there allegedly denied making any raid or arrest. The protesters expressed serious concern over the situation and questioned: If the police had not arrested their men, then where were they, and under what law had they been taken away?

The protesting women alleged that the police’s actions had caused severe mental distress and fear among their families. They demanded an impartial investigation into the incident, the immediate recovery and release of all the men allegedly taken into custody, protection for the women against alleged torture and police excesses, and legal action against the officers responsible.

The protesters strongly appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Inspector General of Sindh Police, the Deputy Inspector General of Police Sukkur, the Senior Superintendent of Police Sukkur, and other senior authorities to take immediate notice of the incident, provide them with justice, and ensure protection for their families.

The women said that they respected law-enforcement agencies; however, they maintained that allegedly unlawful entry into citizens’ homes, violation of the sanctity of the household, and alleged torture of citizens were unacceptable. They warned that if their demands were not addressed immediately, they would be forced to expand the scope of their protest.
