PESHAWAR: The operational capacity of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has been further strengthened with the provision of modern vehicles, bulletproof armoured personnel carriers (APCs), motorcycles, lifters and other equipment to various districts and police units across the province.
According to details released by the Central Police Office (CPO), a range of modern vehicles and equipment has been handed over to the police as part of efforts to improve operational preparedness and enhance the force’s ability to respond to security challenges.
Modern bulletproof APCs have been provided to several districts. The CPO said that Dragon APCs had been handed over to the police forces in Tank, Hangu and Swat. Additional APCs were also provided to the police in Upper Dir and Mansehra.
Modern vehicles have also been supplied to the Kohat and Torghar police, while Hiace vans have been allocated to police units in Mardan, Swat, Kohat and Bannu.
According to the Central Police Office, Hiace vans have also been provided to the police in Dera Ismail Khan and Abbottabad, as well as to the Telecommunications unit. The distribution of vehicles and equipment is aimed at improving mobility and enabling police personnel to perform their duties more efficiently.
The KP Police has also distributed 33 lifters among different districts and units. In addition, 25 motorcycles have been provided to various districts to improve mobility and facilitate police operations, particularly in areas where rapid movement is required.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed said the provision of modern equipment would significantly improve the operational capabilities of the provincial police.
He said the newly provided lifters would play an important role in traffic management and help authorities deal with illegal parking. The equipment would enable police and traffic personnel to respond more effectively to violations and improve traffic flow in congested areas.
The IG further revealed that the upgrading of 84 APCs belonging to the KP Police was currently under way. These APCs are being equipped with modern technology to improve their effectiveness and provide greater protection to police personnel operating in sensitive and high-risk areas.
He also said that side-armouring had been carried out on police mobile vehicles to increase protection for personnel during operations.
According to the police chief, the modernization of vehicles and equipment would further enhance the force’s operational preparedness. Modern APCs and pickup vehicles were being introduced to strengthen police capabilities and enable personnel to respond more effectively to security incidents and emergencies.
The modernization programme is particularly important for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police forces operate in challenging security conditions and frequently perform duties in areas requiring enhanced protection and mobility.
The introduction of bulletproof APCs is expected to provide greater protection to police personnel during counterterrorism operations, patrols and other high-risk assignments. The upgraded vehicles can also improve the ability of police units to reach difficult areas and respond to emergencies.
The provision of motorcycles and vans, meanwhile, is intended to improve day-to-day mobility and facilitate the deployment of police personnel across different districts.
The KP Police leadership said that modernizing the force was part of a broader strategy to equip police personnel with the technology and resources required to maintain law and order and protect citizens.
Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed emphasized that providing modern equipment was not only aimed at strengthening the police’s operational capacity but also at improving the quality and timeliness of services provided to the public.
He said the provincial police was taking steps to ensure that citizens received timely and quality police services. Better vehicles, modern technology and upgraded equipment would help police personnel perform their responsibilities more effectively.
The modernization of the KP Police also includes continued efforts to improve existing equipment rather than relying solely on the procurement of new vehicles. The ongoing upgrade of 84 APCs is expected to extend their operational usefulness while bringing them in line with modern security requirements.
Police officials said that strengthening mobility, protection and communication capabilities would enable various units to coordinate more effectively during emergencies and security operations.
The distribution of the latest vehicles and equipment across multiple districts demonstrates an effort to strengthen police capabilities beyond major urban centres. Districts such as Tank, Hangu, Swat, Upper Dir, Mansehra, Kohat, Torghar, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan have received equipment under the latest initiative.
The KP government and police authorities have repeatedly emphasized the importance of modernizing law-enforcement agencies in order to respond effectively to evolving security challenges. Modern technology, protected vehicles and improved mobility are considered essential components of an effective policing system.

IG Zulfiqar Hameed reiterated that efforts to equip the police with modern tools and technology would continue. He said the objective was to strengthen law enforcement, maintain peace and order, and ensure that citizens received effective and professional police services.
