If someone asks you what the best age to get married is, what would you say?

The truth is, there is no simple answer to this question because every individual is different, and it’s not possible to determine one ideal age for marriage.

However, when it comes to mental health, not getting married after a certain age can have an impact on the mind.

A study by Zurich University in Switzerland examined data from three research reports involving more than 17,000 young individuals.

At the start of these studies, the participants were 16 years old, and their mental health was tracked until around 30 years of age.

The research found that delaying marriage beyond a certain age affects life satisfaction, increases feelings of loneliness, and can lead to depression, with these effects worsening over time.

The study revealed that unmarried individuals aged 16 or 17 had very good mental health and higher levels of happiness.

At age 18, single individuals began to experience a slight decrease in life satisfaction, though it was not significant.

By age 19, feelings of loneliness started to become more noticeable, and this sense of isolation increased with each passing year.

If a person remains unmarried, mental health decline accelerates after age 24.

Feelings of loneliness rise rapidly, life satisfaction continues to drop, and symptoms of depression begin to emerge gradually.

Initially, the signs of depression are not severe, and researchers note that feelings of loneliness appear first, followed by a gradual impact on emotional well-being.

By age 29, loneliness peaks, and the severity of depression symptoms increases.

Researchers conclude that if you want to get married, the best age for maintaining good mental health is 25 to 26 years. After this, feelings of loneliness increase rapidly, and there is a higher risk of depression.

The findings of this research were published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
