MUZAFFARABAD: The results of the third phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections are continuing to emerge after polling concluded in four constituencies of Bagh and Haveli districts.
Polling was held today across the four constituencies, following which the counting of votes began. Unofficial and unverified results are being received from polling stations as the counting process continues.
LA-14 Bagh-1
Unofficial and unverified results from all 214 polling stations in LA-14 Bagh-1 have been received, showing a major upset.
Muslim Conference chief Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan has lost his home constituency. The seat has been won by Sardar Sajid Iqbal of the Jammu and Kashmir Dast-o-Bazu Party.
According to the unofficial results, Sajid Iqbal secured 40,702 votes, while Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan received 19,542 votes.
Sajid Iqbal therefore secured more than twice the number of votes obtained by the Muslim Conference leader, according to the unofficial count.
The result is being viewed as a major upset given Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan’s longstanding political association with the constituency.
LA-16 Bagh-3
Unofficial and unverified results from 84 of the total 186 polling stations have been received in LA-16 Bagh-3.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sardar Mir Akbar Khan is currently leading with 9,243 votes.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Sardar Qamar Zaman Khan is in second place with 7,144 votes.
The counting process is still underway, and the results remain unofficial.
LA-15 Bagh-2
In LA-15 Bagh-2, unofficial and unverified results from 45 of the 213 polling stations have been received.
PPP candidate Zia Qamar is currently leading with 5,200 votes, while PML-N candidate Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas is in second place with 2,244 votes.
Further results are expected as counting continues at the remaining polling stations.
LA-17 Bagh-4
In LA-17 Bagh-4, unofficial and unverified results from only two of the 199 polling stations have been received so far.
PML-N candidate Chaudhry Mohsin Aziz is currently leading with 443 votes, while PPP candidate Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore is in second place with 344 votes.
The early figures from this constituency are not indicative of the final outcome because results from only two polling stations have been received.
The third phase of the AJK elections has attracted significant political attention, particularly following the unexpected defeat of Muslim Conference chief Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan in his home constituency.
As vote counting continues, political parties and candidates are closely monitoring the results from all four constituencies.
The figures currently available are unofficial and unverified, and the final results will be declared by the relevant election authorities after completion of the counting and verification process.
