KHAIRPUR (Report: Zubairullah Jamali) — Chairman of Khairpur Teaching Civil Hospital, Professor Dr. Javed Ahmed Phulpoto, carried out a surprise and detailed inspection of Civil Hospital Khairpur along with Vice Principal of Khairpur Medical College Dr. Mukhtiar Ahmed Lakh, Medical Superintendent Dr. Rafiq Ahmed Mangi, and other senior officials.
During the unannounced visit, the chairman reviewed the overall working and facilities of various wards and departments, including the Emergency Ward, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiology Department, Radiology Department, and other sections of the hospital. The inspection aimed to assess the quality of healthcare services being provided to patients and to identify administrative and operational shortcomings.
While inspecting different departments, Professor Dr. Javed Ahmed Phulpoto personally checked the attendance registers of doctors and paramedical staff. During this process, several doctors and staff members were found absent from duty without prior approval. Expressing strong displeasure over the situation, the chairman termed absenteeism as a serious violation of professional responsibility and negligence toward patients.
On the spot, he issued strict orders for immediate action against the absent doctors and staff, directing hospital administration to initiate disciplinary proceedings in accordance with rules and regulations. He made it clear that negligence and dereliction of duty would not be tolerated under any circumstances, particularly in a public healthcare institution meant to serve the poor and needy.
Special attention was given to the ICU ward, where Professor Dr. Phulpoto thoroughly reviewed the existing facilities, availability of equipment, and patient care standards. He emphasized the critical role of the ICU in saving lives and issued special instructions to upgrade the ICU with modern medical facilities and advanced equipment. According to him, improving ICU standards is essential to ensure better and timely treatment for critically ill patients.
The chairman stressed that no compromise should be made on the quality of care for critical patients. He instructed the administration to prepare a comprehensive plan for upgrading ICU services so that patients do not have to be referred to other cities due to lack of facilities.
In addition to medical facilities, hospital cleanliness and sanitation were also reviewed during the visit. Professor Dr. Phulpoto expressed concern over certain areas where cleanliness standards were not satisfactory. He directed the hospital management to further strengthen the sanitation system and ensure regular monitoring so that a clean and hygienic environment is maintained across all wards and corridors.
He noted that cleanliness is a fundamental part of patient care and plays a vital role in preventing infections and improving recovery. The administration was instructed to take strict action against contractors or staff responsible for poor sanitation.
During the inspection, the chairman and accompanying officials also met patients admitted in various wards. He interacted directly with patients and their attendants, asking them about the treatment, availability of medicines, behavior of staff, and overall facilities. Several patients shared their feedback, highlighting both positive aspects and areas needing improvement.
Professor Dr. Phulpoto assured patients that their concerns would be addressed on a priority basis. He instructed the hospital administration to ensure timely provision of medicines, diagnostic services, and all possible medical facilities, so that patients do not face unnecessary hardship.
Addressing the hospital staff and administration, the chairman reiterated that Civil Hospital Khairpur is a major public healthcare facility and carries a huge responsibility toward the people of the district and surrounding areas. He emphasized that doctors and staff must realize the importance of their duties and perform their responsibilities with honesty and dedication.
At the conclusion of the visit, Professor Dr. Javed Ahmed Phulpoto stated that negligence at Civil Hospital Khairpur will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He warned that strict action would be taken against any staff member found guilty of absenteeism, negligence, or misconduct.
He further said that all available resources would be utilized to improve the hospital’s performance, infrastructure, and service delivery. “Our goal is to provide quality and standardized healthcare facilities to the public. We are committed to making Civil Hospital Khairpur a better and more efficient healthcare institution,” he said.
The surprise inspection has been seen as a positive step by patients and local residents, who hope that such visits will lead to improved discipline, better services, and enhanced accountability within the hospital.
