KARACHI: Chairman Korangi Town Muhammad Naeem Sheikh planted a sapling outside LRBT on 9000 Road as part of an ongoing tree plantation campaign aimed at improving the environment and increasing greenery across the area.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Muhammad Naeem Sheikh said that plantation of trees was an urgent need to combat environmental pollution and transform urban areas into greener and healthier spaces.
He said trees not only enhance the beauty of cities but also play a vital role in providing clean and healthy air. Increasing the number of trees in densely populated urban areas could help reduce pollution and improve the overall quality of the environment.
Representatives of the media, officers and employees from various departments of TMC Korangi, as well as the relevant staff, were present during the plantation activity.
After planting the sapling, Chairman Naeem Sheikh received a detailed briefing from the concerned officers regarding plantation activities in the area, the development and maintenance of green belts, and arrangements for the proper care of newly planted trees.
He said ensuring cleanliness, beautification and greenery across Korangi Town was among the administration’s top priorities. He emphasized that plantation should not be limited to merely planting saplings, adding that their proper maintenance, regular watering and protection were equally important.
The chairman directed the relevant officers and employees to regularly monitor the newly planted saplings and take effective measures to protect them from damage. He stressed that the survival and growth of planted trees should be ensured through proper maintenance and continuous supervision.
Muhammad Naeem Sheikh said that planting more trees in urban areas would not only create a pleasant environment but would also help reduce the intensity of heat and air pollution.
He appealed to citizens to actively participate in plantation activities and contribute to making Korangi greener. He urged residents to plant saplings around their homes, shops, roads and other available spaces and, equally importantly, ensure their protection and care.
The chairman further said that TMC Korangi was continuing various initiatives aimed at improving the area’s cleanliness, beautification and greenery. More plantation activities would be carried out in different parts of Korangi in the coming days, he added.
He said the objective was to provide residents with a clean, green, attractive and better urban environment through coordinated efforts by the local administration and the community.
The chairman emphasized that a successful plantation campaign required collective responsibility. While government institutions could provide the necessary support and infrastructure, the active participation of citizens was essential for protecting and maintaining trees after they were planted.
At the conclusion of the plantation activity, Chairman Korangi Town Muhammad Naeem Sheikh expressed his determination to expand and strengthen environmental improvement and plantation initiatives under the slogan “Green Korangi, Clean Korangi.”
He said the administration would continue working to increase greenery, improve the appearance of public spaces and create a healthier environment for the people of Korangi.
The plantation drive reflects the local administration’s efforts to promote environmental awareness and encourage greater community participation in making urban areas cleaner, greener and more sustainable.
