Sydney: Australia has defeated England in the fifth and final Test of the Ashes series, securing the series with a 4-1 victory. The decisive match was played in Sydney, where the home team displayed dominance both with the bat and ball.

In the Sydney Test, England scored 384 runs in their first innings and followed up with 342 runs in the second innings, but it was not enough to challenge Australia’s strong performance.

Australia’s Performance

Australia posted 567 runs in their first innings, setting a formidable total. Chasing a target of 160 runs in the second innings, the home team achieved the score losing only five wickets, thus sealing the match comfortably.

Steve Smith Shines

Australia’s experienced batsman Steve Smith once again showcased his class by scoring a brilliant century in the final Ashes Test. His performance not only contributed significantly to Australia’s victory but also added multiple records to his career achievements, reaffirming his status as one of the finest batsmen in the series.

Other Notable Performances

Veteran Australian batsman Usman Khawaja, playing his last Test match, struggled with the bat, scoring 17 runs in the first innings and just 6 in the second. Despite this, Australia’s overall batting depth ensured the team remained dominant.

Series Summary

Australia had already claimed victory in the first three Tests, securing the Ashes series early. England managed to win the fourth Test, but it was not enough to prevent Australia from winning the series 4-1.

The series highlighted Australia’s consistent superiority at home and strong contributions from key players, especially Steve Smith, whose performance in the final Test capped off a successful Ashes campaign.
