Yemen: The Saudi-led coalition has confirmed targeted airstrikes against separatist forces in Yemen’s Al-Dhalea province. The operations were described as limited and aimed at preventing escalation of conflict in the region.
Reports indicate that Aidarus al-Zoubaidi, the head of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), failed to board a scheduled flight to Riyadh on Tuesday night, instead fleeing to an unknown location. Al-Zoubaidi was expected to participate in talks between the Yemeni government and southern separatist factions.
The Saudi-led coalition stated that intelligence revealed al-Zoubaidi had mobilized a large armed force in Al-Dhalea, including both heavy and light weaponry. Early morning airstrikes were carried out at around 4 a.m. to preempt potential clashes.
The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council issued a statement accusing al-Zoubaidi of treason. Consequently, he has been removed from his position as Vice President within the council and will be held accountable by the Attorney General for his actions.
