TEHRAN: Iranian parliamentarian Ebrahim Rezaei, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, has said that Saudi Arabia’s new defence agreement with Pakistan and Türkiye does not guarantee the kingdom’s security.
In a message posted on social media, Rezaei said Saudi Arabia should understand that the agreement with Türkiye and Pakistan would not provide the level of protection it seeks.
He described the agreement as a “paper agreement” and argued that Saudi Arabia had also failed to obtain complete security despite relying on the United States for decades.
Rezaei advised Saudi Arabia to reconsider its policies so that it would not have to depend on other countries for its security.
His comments came after Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye signed a joint defence agreement, under which an attack on one of the three countries would be considered an attack on all three.
The agreement has drawn attention across the region, with several countries closely watching its possible impact on regional security and defence cooperation.
The Iranian lawmaker’s remarks represent his own assessment of the agreement and do not necessarily reflect the official position of the Iranian government.
The new defence arrangement is expected to strengthen military cooperation and coordination among Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye.
