Karachi, October 8, 2025 — In a significant move to ensure the welfare and future security of its employees, New Karachi Town has entered into a group insurance agreement with State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan. The official signing ceremony took place at the New Karachi Town Office, attended by Chairman Muhammad Yousuf, Vice Chairman Shoaib bin Zaheer, Finance Department Officer Syed Muhammad Salman, and State Life’s General Insurance representative, G.I. Kamali.
Under the agreement, New Karachi Town will pay an annual premium of PKR 7,457,406 (seventy-four lakh, fifty-seven thousand, four hundred and six rupees) to State Life Insurance Pakistan. Chairman Muhammad Yousuf described the agreement as a “historic step” towards employee welfare, emphasizing that it goes beyond formality and represents a tangible commitment to the well-being and financial security of the workforce.
He stated, “Our municipal employees dedicate their lives to serving the city with honesty and commitment, often with limited means. It is our duty to safeguard their future and that of their families. This agreement ensures that, in the unfortunate event of an employee’s death during service, their dependents will receive fair financial compensation from State Life Insurance Pakistan to help them overcome difficult times.”
The Chairman further noted that, as per the regulations of the Sindh Government and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), it is mandatory for every municipal institution to formalize a group insurance contract with State Life Insurance. “Today, New Karachi Town has fulfilled that legal and moral responsibility,” he added.
Vice Chairman Shoaib bin Zaheer hailed the agreement as a “milestone for New Karachi Town,” saying it will open new avenues for employee protection and welfare. “This initiative will not only secure the present but also ensure a stable and safe future for our workforce,” he remarked.
Finance Officer Syed Muhammad Salman explained that, following the agreement’s implementation, all permanent employees of New Karachi Town will automatically come under the group insurance coverage. He assured that the entire policy framework will be governed by State Life Insurance Pakistan with complete transparency and compliance with legal protocols.
Chairman Yousuf also expressed gratitude to the State Life delegation, particularly G.I. Kamali, for their cooperation and valuable suggestions during the negotiation process. “Their professional approach and commitment to employee rights made this agreement possible,” he said. The Chairman further emphasized his administration’s ongoing dedication to employee welfare and announced plans to strengthen institutional collaboration with State Life in the future.
“This partnership is not merely a contractual obligation—it is a statement of care, trust, and responsibility towards our employees,” concluded Chairman Muhammad Yousuf. “We want every worker to feel that the organization stands by them, not just in words, but in action.”
The initiative is widely being viewed as a forward-thinking step that sets a positive precedent for other local bodies in Karachi and Sindh to follow, ensuring that employee welfare remains a top administrative priority.
