Peshawar — The resignation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has turned into a political mystery, with conflicting reports emerging from the Chief Minister’s and Governor’s offices.
According to sources within the CM House, Gandapur’s resignation letter was delivered to the gate of the Governor’s House late last night, and the CM House staff reportedly obtained a receipt of acknowledgment upon delivery. However, the Governor’s Office maintains that the official document has not yet reached the governor’s desk.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, speaking to Geo News, confirmed that he has not personally received the resignation, saying, “The letter has not reached my principal secretary. Once it does, I will review it in light of constitutional and legal requirements before signing.” He further stated that if there are any errors or irregularities in the resignation, it would be returned for correction.
At the time of the reported delivery, Governor Kundi was in Islamabad, where he attended a meeting with a foreign ambassador and watched a Pakistan–Afghanistan football match.
The confusion has fueled speculation in political circles regarding the timing and authenticity of the resignation. Some insiders suggest that the delay in acknowledgment could be an administrative issue, while others suspect political maneuvering behind the scenes as both the PTI leadership and federal authorities assess their next steps.
Ali Amin Gandapur had announced his resignation on Wednesday, saying that he was stepping down on the direction of PTI founder Imran Khan, describing the position as “a trust returned to its rightful owner.” He also extended full support to PTI’s nominated successor, Sohail Afridi, calling him “a capable leader who will continue the mission for public welfare.”
Gandapur’s exit, if finalized, marks a significant development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s political landscape, as he was seen as one of PTI’s most vocal and influential figures in the province. Analysts say that his resignation, amid national political uncertainty, could signal a strategic reshuffle within PTI as it seeks to consolidate its position before upcoming political and legal challenges.
For now, the situation remains unclear — with the Governor’s confirmation pending, Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation continues to be a matter of speculation and intrigue in Pakistan’s volatile political climate.
