KARACHI:<\/strong> Residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Johar Mor, Millennium Shopping Mall, Perfume Chowk, Mosamiyat, Aladdin Park, Munawar Chowrangi, Dalmia, Maskan Chowrangi, and Pehlwan Goth<\/strong> have called on the authorities to launch an immediate and impartial anti-encroachment operation against alleged illegal occupations on public spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to local residents, alleged encroachments on green belts, footpaths, and roadside areas<\/strong> have severely disrupted traffic flow and created difficulties for pedestrians, particularly women, senior citizens, and children<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents have appealed to the Commissioner Karachi, Deputy Commissioner East, Mayor Karachi, Assistant Commissioner Gulshan-e-Iqbal,<\/strong> and the relevant Cantonment Board authorities<\/strong> to clear public land and restore pedestrian pathways through a transparent and non-discriminatory operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locals alleged that some hotels, tea stalls, restaurants, food outlets, roadside vendors, and pushcart operators have occupied footpaths, green belts, and road shoulders, narrowing roads and contributing to frequent traffic congestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also claimed that during the tenure of former Assistant Commissioner Javeria Ashraf<\/strong>, effective anti-encroachment operations had removed several illegal structures. However, they alleged that encroachments have gradually reappeared following her transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some residents further alleged that certain revenue officials, individuals associated with the Assistant Commissioner Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s office, and some officials linked to the relevant Cantonment Board have been providing protection to the alleged encroachment mafia and receiving financial benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
