The projects are being financed through the <strong>Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development package was announced by Prime Minister <strong>Shehbaz Sharif<\/strong> during the <strong>2023\u201324 fiscal year<\/strong> in response to a demand made by the <strong>Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)<\/strong>. The package was designed to fund development schemes proposed by MQM members of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials said that although the federal government transferred the allocated funds to the PIDCL account soon after the announcement, the projects required approval through various administrative and planning forums, including the <strong>Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC)<\/strong>, before implementation could begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the completion of these approval processes, tenders for the projects were opened on <strong>July 28, 29, and 30<\/strong>, paving the way for construction work to commence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities stated that <strong>on-ground work is expected to begin within the next few days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development package includes a wide range of civic improvement projects aimed at upgrading public infrastructure and basic municipal services in Karachi and Hyderabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key components of the package include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Construction and rehabilitation of <strong>roads and streets<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installation of <strong>paver blocks<\/strong> in residential areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installation and upgrading of <strong>street lighting systems<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Laying of <strong>water supply pipelines<\/strong> and <strong>sewerage networks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construction of <strong>two underground water storage tanks<\/strong>, each with a capacity of <strong>500,000 gallons<\/strong>, in <strong>Baldia Town<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provision of <strong>medical machinery and equipment<\/strong> for selected government hospitals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional projects focusing on essential public infrastructure and community facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials said the initiatives are intended to improve living conditions, strengthen urban infrastructure, and address long-standing civic issues such as poor road conditions, inadequate drainage, water shortages, and limited healthcare facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The projects are expected to benefit thousands of residents by enhancing access to essential municipal services and improving the quality of public infrastructure in both cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Government officials expressed hope that timely execution of the schemes will contribute to urban development, create employment opportunities during the construction phase, and support economic activity in Karachi and Hyderabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rs20 billion package represents one of the major federally funded urban development initiatives for Sindh and is aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs while improving public services in the province&#8217;s two largest urban
