Tokyo:<\/strong> A magnitude 7.1 earthquake<\/strong> struck Kumamoto Prefecture<\/strong> in southern Japan, injuring at least 50 people<\/strong>, cutting electricity to around 40,000 homes<\/strong>, and causing significant disruption to transport services, according to Japanese authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Reuters<\/strong>, the powerful earthquake caused widespread damage to roads and buildings across the affected region. Emergency services were deployed immediately to assess the impact and assist those affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi<\/strong> said the government was continuing to gather complete information on the extent of the damage and casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have received reports that people have been injured,” the prime minister said. “Power outages and fires have occurred in some areas, while roads, bridges, and buildings have also sustained damage.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA)<\/strong> issued warnings for aftershocks<\/strong> across parts of Kyushu Island<\/strong>, urging residents to remain cautious in the coming days as further seismic activity remains possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
