Karachi:<\/strong> The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)<\/strong> has forecast thunderstorms and rain<\/strong> across Karachi and several other districts of Sindh from July 31 to August 2<\/strong>, warning of the possibility of urban flooding<\/strong> in low-lying areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the PMD, the low-pressure weather system over the Bay of Bengal<\/strong> has intensified into a deep depression<\/strong> and is currently located over the Indian states of Odisha<\/strong> and Chhattisgarh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The department said the system, combined with monsoon currents, is expected to influence weather conditions in Sindh, bringing gusty winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall<\/strong> to many parts of the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Areas likely to receive rain include Tharparkar<\/strong> and Umerkot<\/strong>, where thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are expected. Similar weather conditions are also forecast for Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah), Naushahro Feroze, and Dadu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PMD has also predicted thunderstorms and rainfall for Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Larkana<\/strong>, and Karachi<\/strong> during the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have warned that heavy rainfall may lead to urban flooding<\/strong> between July 31 and August 2<\/strong>, particularly in low-lying areas of Sukkur<\/strong> and Shaheed Benazirabad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The department also identified Jacobabad, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Dadu<\/strong> as districts where urban flooding is possible if heavy downpours occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the PMD, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal<\/strong> are expected to penetrate the upper and central parts of the country, while another westerly weather system<\/strong> is currently affecting northern Pakistan. The interaction of these weather systems is likely to enhance rainfall activity across several regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Meteorological Department has advised local administrations to remain alert and take precautionary measures to minimise the impact of heavy rain, particularly in flood-prone urban areas. Residents have also been urged to monitor official weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during severe storms, and exercise caution in areas vulnerable to flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
