Lahore:<\/strong> At least six people<\/strong>, including three members of the same family<\/strong>, were killed after heavy monsoon rains caused the roofs of dilapidated houses to collapse in several cities across Punjab, while widespread flooding disrupted traffic and inundated low-lying areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA)<\/strong>, Lahore received intense rainfall, with Saggian<\/strong> recording the highest rainfall at 143 millimetres<\/strong>. Other significant rainfall measurements included Farukhabad (141 mm)<\/strong>, Pani Wala Talab (129 mm)<\/strong>, Upper Mall (106 mm)<\/strong>, and Lakshmi Chowk (94 mm)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The downpour led to severe waterlogging in several parts of the provincial capital, including Davis Road, Shadman, Shah Jamal<\/strong>, and the area near the Governor House Squash Complex<\/strong>, disrupting traffic and causing delays for commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WASA officials said drainage operations were launched immediately, and accumulated rainwater had been cleared from several low-lying locations, including Lawrence Road, Chowk Nakhuda, Waris Road, Zoh Elahi Road, Nabha Road, Karim Block, Ravi Road, Haji Camp<\/strong>, and GPO Chowk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Rescue 1122<\/strong>, one of the deadliest incidents occurred in Garhi Shahu Railway Colony<\/strong>, where the roof of a house collapsed during the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collapse claimed the lives of Moeen<\/strong>, his wife Noreen<\/strong>, and their daughter Fatima<\/strong>, while another daughter sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate incident on Bedian Road<\/strong>, a roof collapse left Aslam, Ahsan, and Mumtaz Bibi<\/strong> injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another roof collapse near Milad Chowk in Shadab Colony on Ferozepur Road<\/strong> injured four people, who were also taken to hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO)<\/strong> reported that 37 electricity feeders<\/strong> were temporarily affected due to the heavy rainfall. Power supply was later restored after repair work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside Lahore, Kasur<\/strong> also witnessed a fatal roof collapse caused by the rain. Two people, including a child, lost their lives, while three others were injured<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Gujrat<\/strong>, authorities recorded 185 millimetres of rainfall<\/strong>, with floodwater entering residential areas and affecting homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heavy rainfall also inundated low-lying neighbourhoods in Hafizabad<\/strong> and several other cities across Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, officials reported low-level flooding<\/strong> at Trimmu Barrage<\/strong> on the Chenab River<\/strong>, where rising water levels submerged dozens of nearby settlements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest spell of monsoon rains has once again highlighted the vulnerability of ageing buildings and low-lying communities to extreme weather. Rescue teams and local authorities remain engaged in relief, drainage, and emergency response operations, while residents have been urged to exercise caution as further rainfall is forecast in parts of the province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
