KARACHI:<\/strong> Pakistan received 13 percent more rainfall than normal<\/strong> during the 2026 pre-monsoon season<\/strong>, according to a report released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)<\/strong> covering the period from April to June<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite fluctuations in monthly rainfall, the PMD said the pre-monsoon season as a whole remained close to the long-term average<\/strong> across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the report, Pakistan recorded 13 percent above-normal rainfall<\/strong> during the three-month period, with exceptionally heavy rain in April offsetting deficits observed in the following two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PMD reported that April rainfall was 65 percent above normal nationwide<\/strong>, making it one of the wettest Aprils on record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report noted that the unusually high rainfall in April compensated for the shortfall experienced during May and June<\/strong>, when precipitation declined significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between April and June<\/strong>, Pakistan received an average of 73 millimeters of rainfall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Meteorological Department, April 2026 was the wettest April recorded in Pakistan since 1961<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regional data showed particularly heavy rainfall in Punjab<\/strong>, which received 109 percent above-normal rainfall<\/strong>, while Sindh recorded 169 percent above-normal rainfall<\/strong> during April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, weather conditions became much drier in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PMD said nationwide rainfall in May was 22 percent below normal<\/strong>, while Sindh experienced a 98 percent deficit<\/strong> and Balochistan recorded 80 percent below-normal rainfall<\/strong> during the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dry trend continued into June<\/strong>, when rainfall across Pakistan remained 19 percent below the seasonal average<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the report, Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan<\/strong> continued to experience below-normal rainfall during June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings illustrate the highly variable nature of Pakistan’s pre-monsoon weather, with exceptionally wet conditions in April balancing the rainfall shortages recorded later in the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report comes as the country enters the peak monsoon period, with the Meteorological Department continuing to monitor rainfall patterns and issue forecasts and advisories regarding potential flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
