WASHINGTON:<\/strong> U.S. President Donald Trump<\/strong> has announced that the United States will launch additional and more intensive military strikes against Iran<\/strong>, while also expressing hope that a diplomatic agreement between the two countries could still be reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt<\/strong>, President Trump said the United States planned to carry out major military operations against Iran on Monday night and Tuesday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump claimed that a memorandum of understanding<\/strong> had been presented to Iran as a test of its willingness to comply with certain commitments, but alleged that Tehran had failed to honor those commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also stated that U.S. forces were preparing to target what he identified as Kuh Kolang Gaz La in central Iran<\/strong> as part of the planned military campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussing U.S.-Israel relations, Trump said he maintains close coordination<\/strong> with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/strong> and described their relationship as positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sometimes I disagree with Prime Minister Netanyahu, and when I do, I tell him directly,” Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, while speaking to reporters at the White House<\/strong>, Trump said U.S. military operations against Iran were continuing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are rapidly destroying Iran’s military capabilities,” he said, adding that the United States was targeting what he described as Iran’s capabilities related to the Strait of Hormuz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump also confirmed that additional strikes would take place later that night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the military escalation, the U.S. president said he still believed a negotiated agreement with Iran remained possible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He argued that a blockade would be more effective than sustained bombing, although he did not provide details about how such a blockade would be implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump further claimed that Iran’s first- and second-tier military leadership<\/strong> had been eliminated during the campaign. This claim has not been independently verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to maritime security, Trump said countries benefiting from U.S. protection in the Strait of Hormuz<\/strong> should contribute financially to the costs of those operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His latest remarks follow an earlier announcement in which he declared a new U.S. policy regarding the strategic waterway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Trump said the United States would become the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz<\/strong> and proposed imposing a 20 percent fee on all cargo<\/strong> passing through the waterway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Trump, the strait would remain open to international shipping, but restrictions would apply to Iranian vessels and their customers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said ships from countries other than Iran would continue to enjoy unrestricted access through the Strait of Hormuz, while implementation of the new maritime measures would begin immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes, with a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports passing through the narrow waterway each day. Any escalation in military activity or restrictions on navigation there has the potential to affect global energy markets and international trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
