LAHORE:<\/strong> Former Pakistan captain, national selector, and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) National Academy batting consultant Misbah-ul-Haq<\/strong> has advised young cricketers to focus on discipline, consistency, and hard work, while urging coaches, mentors, and parents to avoid placing unnecessary pressure on emerging players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking in an interview with PCB Digital<\/strong>, Misbah said that developing young talent requires patience and proper guidance, adding that excessive expectations at an early stage can negatively affect a player’s confidence and natural ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that young cricketers should be given responsibilities on the field, but their passion and enjoyment for the game should never be diminished by unrealistic demands or constant pressure to perform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Coaches, mentors, and parents should avoid putting unnecessary pressure on young players,” Misbah said. “Give them responsibility, but do not take away their enthusiasm for playing cricket.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former captain emphasized that talent alone is not enough to achieve success<\/strong> at the highest level. According to him, discipline, consistency, and a strong work ethic are the qualities that separate successful cricketers from the rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Misbah said players who aspire to represent Pakistan must commit themselves to continuous improvement through daily practice, physical fitness, and a professional lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A successful cricketer never compromises on hard work, fitness, regular training, and a balanced diet,” he remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that maintaining physical fitness is just as important as improving batting or bowling skills, as modern cricket demands high levels of endurance, agility, and mental resilience across all formats of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Misbah also highlighted the importance of four-day domestic cricket<\/strong>, describing it as an essential platform for the development of technically sound and mentally strong players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said longer-format cricket allows young players to build patience, improve shot selection, develop defensive techniques, and strengthen their ability to perform under pressure over extended periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Misbah, red-ball cricket teaches valuable lessons that shorter formats cannot always provide, helping players become more complete cricketers before progressing to international competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Pakistan skipper has consistently advocated for strengthening Pakistan’s domestic cricket structure and believes that a solid first-class system is critical for producing future international stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the interview, Misbah also underlined the importance of creating a positive learning environment where young athletes are encouraged to make mistakes, learn from them, and gradually develop confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said coaches should focus on nurturing players’ long-term development instead of seeking immediate results, while parents should support their children without burdening them with excessive expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
