KARACHI:<\/strong> Pakistani actress, model, and singer Ayesha Omar has expressed concern over Karachi’s deteriorating infrastructure, saying the city’s residents deserve medals for continuing to live and cope with its daily challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her remarks came after the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)<\/strong> released its Global Liveability Index 2026<\/strong>, which ranked Karachi 170th out of 173 cities<\/strong>, placing it among the least livable cities in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reacting to the report through an Instagram Story, Ayesha Omar said she was not surprised by the ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We, the people of Karachi, deserve medals simply for living here,” she wrote, reflecting on the hardships faced by millions of residents every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actress described the city’s ongoing infrastructure and public service problems, saying that Karachiites are forced to navigate broken and polluted roads, spend hours stuck in traffic congestion, and cope with unreliable supplies of gas and electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also highlighted growing concerns over public safety, saying residents live with the constant fear of street crime while continuing to fulfill their responsibilities by paying taxes and contributing to the country’s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ayesha Omar, despite working hard and supporting the national economy, many people in Karachi remain trapped in a continuous “fight-or-flight” state because of the pressures of everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her comments quickly attracted attention on social media, where many users echoed similar concerns about the city’s infrastructure, public utilities, transportation system, and law and order situation. Others emphasized the need for long-term urban planning and greater investment in civic services to improve living conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EIU Global Liveability Index<\/strong> evaluates cities around the world based on several factors, including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Cities receiving lower scores typically face challenges related to public services, security, transportation, and quality of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karachi’s position near the bottom of the latest rankings has sparked renewed debate over governance, infrastructure development, and the delivery of essential municipal services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ranking has also drawn political reactions. Following the publication of the report, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)<\/strong> criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), holding the provincial government responsible for what it described as the city’s declining condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayesha Omar has previously spoken publicly about social issues in Pakistan. In earlier interviews, she voiced concerns about women’s safety and broader societal challenges, emphasizing the importance of creating a safer and more supportive environment for citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her latest comments have once again brought attention to the difficulties faced by Karachi’s residents, with many social media users describing the actress’s observations as reflective of the experiences of millions who contend daily with traffic congestion, inadequate public infrastructure, intermittent utility services, and security concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
