He said the delay has become symbolic of what he described as the provincial government’s failure to deliver essential infrastructure projects on time.

Turning to the education sector, the Awam Pakistan Party leader expressed concern over the financial difficulties facing the Federal Urdu University. He claimed that university faculty members have not received their salaries for the past three months despite the institution serving students from middle-income families.

He said the government collects taxes from businesses and citizens but has failed to ensure timely payment of teachers’ salaries, adding that such delays negatively affect both educators and the quality of education.

Miftah also referred to the latest Global Liveability Index, stating that Karachi ranked 170th out of 173 cities included in the survey. According to him, the ranking reflects the city’s ongoing challenges in governance, infrastructure, public services, and quality of life.

He argued that after 18 years of Pakistan Peoples Party rule in Sindh, responsibility for Karachi’s condition can no longer be attributed to previous governments.

“You cannot continue blaming General Zia or Pervez Musharraf after nearly two decades in power,” Miftah said, maintaining that the current provincial administration should be held accountable for the city’s performance.

The former finance minister further criticized conditions in Sindh’s education, healthcare, and policing sectors, claiming they continue to perform poorly compared with expectations. He said residents face persistent difficulties due to inadequate public services and weak governance.

Addressing Pakistan’s broader economic situation, Miftah Ismail said average household income has declined over the past four years while inflation has significantly increased, placing considerable financial pressure on salaried and middle-class families.

He attributed the high price of petrol largely to taxation, arguing that government taxes are a major reason consumers continue to pay elevated fuel prices.

Citing what he described as official government statistics, Miftah claimed inflation has risen by 78 percent over the last four years. He said the rising cost of living has made it increasingly difficult for salaried individuals to meet their daily expenses.

He also stated that 29 percent of Pakistan’s population is living below the poverty line, describing the figure as evidence of worsening economic conditions and the growing burden on ordinary citizens.

The remarks represent the views and allegations made by Miftah Ismail during his press conference. The Pakistan Peoples Party had not issued an immediate response to his statements at the time they were made.

KARACHI: Awam Pakistan Party Secretary General Miftah Ismail has strongly criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), alleging that the prolonged construction of Karachi’s University Road..

[3

post-5414","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/437848_5080830_updates-1.jpg",700,400,false
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/437848_5080830_updates-1-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/437848_5080830_updates-1-300x171.jpg",300,171,true
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/437848_5080830_updates-1.jpg",700,400,false
https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/437848_5080830_updates-1.jpg",700,400,false],"1536x1536":["https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/437848_5080830_updates-1.jpg",700,400,false],"2048x2048":["https://paksouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/437848_5080830_updates-1.jpg",700,400,false
admin
["GET
