LAHORE:<\/strong> Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed<\/strong> has challenged his conviction and 10-year prison sentence in the Lahore High Court<\/strong>, seeking to have the trial court’s verdict set aside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to court documents, the appeal was filed through his counsel, Advocate Sikandar Zulqarnain<\/strong>, against the judgment issued in a case related to the May 9, 2023<\/strong> incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conviction stems from a case registered over the alleged burning of police vehicles in the Mughalpura<\/strong> area of Lahore during the unrest that followed the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his appeal, Mahmood-ur-Rasheed argued that the trial court’s decision was contrary to the facts of the case and that the evidence presented on record did not establish his involvement in the alleged offence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The petition contends that there is no credible evidence linking him to the incident and requests the Lahore High Court to declare the 10-year sentence<\/strong> null and void.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The appellant has urged the court to re-examine the record, arguing that the conviction cannot be sustained in the absence of sufficient evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The appeal follows the June 20<\/strong> verdict of the trial court, which sentenced Mahmood-ur-Rasheed to 10 years’ imprisonment<\/strong> in connection with the case. He has remained in custody following the conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lahore High Court is expected to take up the appeal in accordance with legal procedure and determine whether the conviction and sentence should be upheld, modified, or set aside after reviewing the trial court record and the arguments presented by both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The May 9 cases involve numerous criminal proceedings arising from protests and acts of violence that occurred across Pakistan following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Several PTI leaders and supporters have faced charges in connection with those events, while many of the convictions are being challenged before higher courts through the appellate process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The filing of the appeal does not alter the existing conviction, which remains in force unless suspended or overturned by the Lahore High Court.
