President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday approved the Finance Bill 2026-27, paving the way for the federal budget to come into force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to official sources, the signed bill has been returned to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, completing the constitutional process required for the enactment of the budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry will send the signed bill to the Printing Corporation for publication in the official gazette, completing the final legal formalities before its implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The federal budget, with a total outlay of Rs18.771 trillion, will take effect at the start of the new fiscal year. Various fiscal measures, including changes to taxes and duties, will also be enforced from July 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the Finance Act 2026-27, salaries and pensions of government employees have been increased by seven per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The revised pay and pension structure will become applicable from the beginning of the new financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Assembly Secretariat had forwarded the Finance Bill to the Presidency a day earlier after its approval by Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Zardari’s assent has now formally turned the bill into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the enforcement of the Finance Act 2026-27, the federal government will begin implementing its development initiatives and fiscal programmes aimed at achieving economic and revenue targets set for the upcoming year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier this week, the National Assembly passed the federal budget after completing a clause-by-clause review of the Finance Bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The legislation was approved in the absence of members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who were not present in the House during the final vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the bill for approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the proceedings, lawmakers debated several proposed amendments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, all opposition-backed amendments were rejected, while government-supported proposals were adopted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the rejected proposals was an amendment seeking to reduce the tax on vehicles with engine capacities up to 1,000cc from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
