The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has lodged a strong official protest and formal complaint with BBC Urdu over what it described as the publication of an “unverified and misleading report” related to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, the ministry said the report in question was based on \u201cunverified and unproven allegations\u201d and failed to take into account official facts and the government’s position on record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry expressed concern over what it called a recurring pattern of inaccurate reporting by BBC Urdu, stating that this was not the first instance in which the broadcaster had published news without proper verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is regrettable that this is not the first incident of BBC Urdu publishing unverified news,\u201d the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said, adding that the repeated publication of unsubstantiated claims was becoming a trend and required immediate corrective measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ministry, BBC Urdu had published a report regarding the closure of routes in Azad Jammu and Kashmir that was contrary to the facts on the ground. The report was also rejected by the AJK government, which termed the claims baseless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry emphasized that international media organizations have a responsibility to uphold professional journalistic standards and should avoid publishing misleading or unverified information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials said the formal complaint has been conveyed to BBC Urdu, urging the organization to ensure greater accuracy and fact-checking in its reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
