While the target has not yet been fully achieved, officials describe the current level of collection as a significant success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Financial Adviser <strong>Gulzar Ali<\/strong> said that recovering around <strong>60 percent of the revenue target<\/strong> is a major achievement, noting that such performance had not been witnessed in previous years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He attributed the improvement to enhanced collection mechanisms and better coordination with relevant institutions involved in billing and revenue recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Municipal Tax Linked to Electricity Bills<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The municipal tax is charged through electricity bills issued to consumers across Karachi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials say the system has helped improve compliance and made tax collection more efficient compared to traditional methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The revenue generated through this mechanism is used to support municipal operations, infrastructure maintenance, sanitation services, and development initiatives within the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Budget Expected to Reach Rs60 Billion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gulzar Ali also revealed that KMC\u2019s budget for the <strong>2026\u201327 fiscal year<\/strong> is expected to be close to <strong>Rs60 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the proposed budget is likely to be presented before the <strong>City Council on June 18<\/strong> by <strong>Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab<\/strong> for approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The budget is expected to outline spending priorities, development plans, and operational expenditures for the coming financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Major Development Spending Planned<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials indicated that a substantial portion of next year\u2019s budget will be allocated to development projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Gulzar Ali, approximately <strong>Rs37 billion<\/strong> will be spent on development initiatives through a combination of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Funds received from the <strong>Government of Sindh<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revenue generated through KMC\u2019s own sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The planned spending is expected to cover infrastructure upgrades, civic improvements, road projects, drainage systems, public facilities, and other urban development schemes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Focus on Urban Improvement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Municipal authorities say the increase in revenue collection will help strengthen KMC\u2019s capacity to address Karachi\u2019s longstanding urban challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city administration has repeatedly emphasized the need for sustainable revenue sources to improve municipal services and support large-scale development projects in Pakistan\u2019s largest metropolitan area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With budget preparations nearing completion, city officials are expected to provide further details on planned expenditures and development priorities when the budget is
