It was the second attack on both Gulf states since Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards said they had targeted \u201cenemy bases\u201d with missiles after the US military said it struck radar sites in Iran and downed drones headed towards the strategic Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bahrain, home to the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet, denounced the attacks against its territory and neighbouring Kuwait as \u201cblatant aggression\u201d and \u201ca flagrant violation of the sovereignty of both countries\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Bahrain\u2019s capital Manama, an&nbsp;<em>AFP<\/em>&nbsp;journalist reported hearing three explosions, while the interior ministry said air raid sirens had sounded across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later, Bahrain\u2019s military said its air defences had \u201csuccessfully intercepted and destroyed three missiles and several drones\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kuwait also condemned the attacks, calling them a \u201cdirect threat\u201d to the lives of citizens and residents and a \u201cdangerous escalation\u201d at a time when the international community was making efforts to stop combat operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Kuwait, an&nbsp;<em>AFP<\/em>&nbsp;journalist reported hearing repeated blasts near the country\u2019s international airport, which had been struck on Wednesday in an attack blamed on Iran that killed one person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe woke up to a huge explosion. The explosions were very loud,\u201d Reem, an Egyptian mother of two, said, referring to the Saturday attacks. \u201cMy children were terrified, and I couldn\u2019t calm them down,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kuwait\u2019s military said it had \u201cengaged seven hostile ballistic missiles\u201d in Kuwaiti airspace. It added that some interceptions over residential areas caused falling debris, resulting in material damage but no casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the hours after the barrages, Kuwait\u2019s aviation authority announced the resumption of air traffic, saying 11 Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways flights had been diverted during an airspace closure caused by the Iranian attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Qatar, Egypt and Jordan joined Bahrain and Kuwait in condemning the attacks, calling them violations of sovereignty and international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for de-escalation and stressed the necessity of sparing the region the consequences of \u201cunjustified attacks\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Egypt also strongly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/amp\/2005647\">condemned<\/a>&nbsp;the \u201cheinous Iranian attack that targeted Kuwait and Bahrain\u201d, terming them a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the two countries and \u201ca dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability\u201d of the entire region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Jordanian foreign ministry said in a statement that the attacks constitute a blatant breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>US strikes Iranian sites<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">US Central Command said six of the seven ballistic missiles fired towards Kuwait and Bahrain were downed, while the seventh \u201cdid not reach its intended target\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Centcom also said US forces downed four one-way attack drones before they could threaten maritime traffic near the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">US forces then struck Iranian coastal radar sites to prevent further attacks. No US personnel were harmed, Centcom said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran\u2019s foreign ministry condemned the US attack on coastal radar installations in the Gulf, calling it a \u201cflagrant\u201d violation of the ceasefire in place since April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It described the strikes as an attack \u201con the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic republic\u201d and denounced Washington\u2019s \u201chostile and provocative behaviour\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Trump says Iran still has missiles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">US President Donald Trump claimed Iran still had \u201c21, 22 per cent\u201d of its missiles left after Tehran fired dozens across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey still have capacity. They have some missiles, they have some drones. I would say, percentage-wise, maybe 21, 22pc of their missiles,\u201d Trump told&nbsp;<em>NBC News<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The estimate is higher than the 18pc he gave in May. Trump has often claimed to have completely destroyed Iran\u2019s war-fighting capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Weeks of complex talks marked by threats and flare-ups of violence have failed to secure a deal to end the war.
