Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi has alleged that the province is being subjected to discriminatory treatment by the federal government, warning that such practices could deepen resentment and widen divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at a ceremony on World Food Safety Day in Peshawar, the chief minister said that ensuring safe and healthy food for the public is an essential need of the time. He highlighted the role of the Food Safety Authority, saying its establishment has significantly improved the availability of quality food in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afridi stated that the importance of the food department has increased further because Pakistan is not fully self-sufficient in wheat production. He added that the provincial government is working on long-term planning to achieve food self-sufficiency, with increased allocations expected for the food sector in the upcoming budget and the construction of modern storage facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He expressed optimism that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would become self-sufficient in multiple sectors by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chief minister also criticized the federal government, claiming that wheat supply to KP had been restricted by Punjab and that repeated letters on the issue had gone unanswered. He further said that when \u201cthose with limited parliamentary strength are given authority, public welfare is often neglected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afridi said the provincial government has allocated Rs 3 billion for the CRBC project, while the federal government has not contributed any funds. He added that Rs 4 billion has been arranged by the provincial government for the Northern Bypass project through bridge financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also pointed out delays in infrastructure projects, saying that although the Peshawar Bus Terminal has been completed, the National Highway Authority has not issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for access routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to the Swat Dam project, he claimed that while the project is ready, the federal government has not granted NOC for visits by foreign engineers, which he said is hindering progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chief minister further alleged that KP\u2019s natural gas supply has been curtailed, despite constitutional provisions giving producing provinces priority over its usage. He said this situation is negatively affecting the middle class and fueling dissatisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afridi warned that continued perceived discrimination against the province could increase tensions and deepen grievances, urging adherence to constitutional rights and equitable resource distribution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
