Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Abdul Waheed Kakar, Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Hilal-e-Juraat, passed away in Rawalpindi on Monday at the age of 89.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ISPR, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and all ranks of the Pakistan Army expressed their grief and sorrow over the sad demise of former Army Chief General (r) Abdul Waheed Kakar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Field Marshal and all ranks of the Pakistan Army paid tribute to the distinguished military services, leadership and valuable contributions of the late general to the Pakistan Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Pakistan Army shares the grief of the bereaved family and offers its heartfelt condolences. May Allah Almighty grant the departed soul highest place in Jannah and give the family strength and patience. Ameen”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
General Kakar had served as the 5th Chief of Army Staff from January 12, 1993, to January 12, 1996.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was appointed by then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif following the sudden death of General Asif Nawaz Janjua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
