RAWALPINDI\/TEHRAN: Pakistan\u2019s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is visiting Tehran on an official trip, the military\u2019s media wing said on Monday, as Iran confirmed plans for talks involving officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement issued from Rawalpindi on Monday that Munir, who is also chief of the army staff, was visiting the Iranian capital for an official visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said during a press briefing that the planned four-country meeting would address regional issues, including Israel\u2019s expansionist policies, the situation in Lebanon and the US war against Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Baghaei said the proposal to convene the meeting had come from Munir and that Tehran had agreed to it following the Pakistani military chief\u2019s offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran confirms regional security discussions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Two people with knowledge of the matter earlier told Reuters<\/em> that senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye were scheduled to meet Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday to discuss regional coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Saudi Arabia was expected to be represented by Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, while Turkiye\u2019s intelligence chief, Ibrahim Kalin, was also expected to attend, according to the sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Baghaei confirmed that the discussions would involve members of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and focus on regional developments. He also said a Qatari delegation was in Iran, without providing further details about its visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Saudi government media office, Pakistan\u2019s military media wing and Turkiye\u2019s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment, Reuters<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Regional tensions and Makkah defence pact<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The planned talks come amid heightened regional tensions, including attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen\u2019s Iran-aligned Houthi movement and the ongoing US-Israeli offensive against Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Munir visited<\/a> Tehran last week, where he met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials.
